An Invitation to Deepen Your Knowledge of Sake and Experience Perfect Pairings

One of the greatest joys of experiencing Japanese culture is its rich culinary heritage. Sake, often referred to as the magical essence that enhances this culinary experience, has a history that dates back to 300-200 BC. By the 8th century, sake had become an essential part of imperial court ceremonies, and by the 15th century, hundreds of small sake breweries had sprung up in Kyoto. By the 18th century, techniques to ensure consistent quality had been established.

The process of making sake involves carefully selected ingredients and water, crafted with precision and dedication by master brewers known as “toji.” Today, Japan boasts over 1,400 breweries and around 10,000 different brands of sake.
